artist
Nadine Debattista Briffa (b.1980) gained her primary creative interests from a tender age while watching her maternal grandfather sculpting and performing designs for interior decorative artefacts. She obtained her first artistic instruction under Trevor Zahra and Alfred Portelli. Her studies furthered at the Junior College under Caesar Attard, Isabelle Borg and Dr. Joseph Paul Cassar. At the University of Malta she was under the guidance of various tutors including Prof. Mario Buhagiar, Dr. Keith Sciberras and Lino Borg. She holds a Masters Degree in History of Art from the University of Malta. Nadine is currently a senior teacher of Art and Expressive Arts in a local private educational institution.
Her recent works are inspired from deep personal feelings, intimate memories and distinctive daily incidents. Nadine currently produces mostly semi-abstract works, creating spontaneous images with lingering figurative features not to totally silence her rationality. Her vibrant and vivid palette helps the artist to express her images with energy and vigour. She constantly includes her own personality in her works, being a colour, a figure or an object. Nadine has a special interest in figures and her ambition is exploring their anatomical structures, creating particular feelings by means of their posture and attitude. Her technique constantly fluctuates from a smooth harmonious merging of colours to harsh outlines according to the feeling, mood and energy of the work.
